A new Visitor's Center atop Mount Equinox in Manchester, Vermont

Client:  Mount Equinox Foundation
Location: Manchester, Vermont
Project:   Visitor’s Center and Chapel of the Carthusian Foundation
Architect:  NBF Architects

Atop Mount Equinox in Manchester, VT is the St. Bruno Scenic Viewing Center of the Carthusian Foundation. The center will provide a place for the tourists who take the trip up the famous Skyline Drive to relax and enjoy the scenery. Russell Construction Services was hired as Construction Manager and we worked closely with the Owner and NBF Architects on developing a budget, permitting, and value engineering,. . The former Skyline hotel had to be demolished, but was labeled as historic. Even though the hotel was in shambles and not repairable without substantial funds from the Owner, it was a very long drawn out process to get the approval from the Historical Society to demolish the building. The building housed the WEQX transmitter station in the existing basement. This needed to stay operational during demolition of the Skyline hotel and new construction of the Visitors Center. With much design, coordination and hard work we successfully protected and secured WEQX and it remained completely safe and operational during demolition and Construction.

The Meadows at East Mountain

Assisted Living Facility with separate Special Care Wings in Rutland, Vermont

Client:  The Meadows at East Mountain
Location: Rutland, VT

The Meadows at East Mountain is a sixty room Assisted Living facility
designed to make residents feel at home with cozy common and dining areas and a beautiful garden area with a gazebo.   Large windows, detailed woodworking, multiple fireplaces and chandeliers are found throughout.

In 2007 and 2014, Russell Construction Services built 2 additional Special Care Wings to provide the Assisted Living Facility with a combined total of 20 additional beds to provide an intimate, homey and secure unit for residents assessed with greater physical and/or cognitive limitations. It allows  residents to “age in place” and avoid most long-term nursing home placements. Although it specializes in meeting the needs of those with dementia, it also services those residents who require extra physical support.

The new buildings feature a nurses station, kitchen, dining area office space, and a fenced in back yard with a sensory garden with fountains and stamped concrete sidewalks.

The additions were built while the existing facilities and wings were fully occupied.
